AWARDS AND RECOGNITION
Henry was inducted into the prestigious Events Industry Council Hall of Leaders in 2018. The Hall of Leaders award is the premier recognition program in the meetings, conventions, exhibitions, hospitality and travel industry – the industry’s “lifetime achievement award.” Each inductee is honored at the Hall of Leaders Recognition Pavilion, located permanently in the Washington (DC) Convention Center. The pavilion contains a short tribute video to each inductee, highlighting his or her career. A second Hall of Leaders is housed in Chicago’s McCormick Place. The McCormick Place display features bronze plaques which bear the inductees’ likenesses and includes brief statements of their contributions to the industry.
TSNN Industry Icon Award (2013)
Trade Show News Network (TSNN) named Henry the 2013 TSNN Industry Icon Award honoree. The award is the exhibition industry’s highest honor.
Samuel B. Shapiro Award for Chief Executive Officer Achievement (2008)
Henry was honored with the 2008 Samuel B. Shapiro Award for Chief Executive Officer Achievement by the Association Forum of Chicagoland. The award is the Forum’s highest honor and is presented each year to a chief executive officer for his or her outstanding service and accomplishments in association management. The Association Forum is the “association of associations” and serves 47,000 Chicagoland association professionals.
“Best Bosses” (2006)
Winning Workplaces, a national non-profit organization with the mission of helping leaders of small and midsize organizations create great workplaces, selected Henry as one of the 18 Best Bosses for 2006. An article about the recognition appeared in the October 2006 issue of Fortune Small Business magazine.
Spirit of Hospitality Award (2006)
In 2006, the Destination Marketing Association International Foundation, the world’s largest association of convention and visitor bureaus, honored Henry and Smithbucklin with the prestigious Spirit of Hospitality Award. Widely regarded as one of the highest honors in the hospitality industry, the award recognizes individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the travel, tourism and meetings industry, and that embrace the philosophy and spirit of hospitality. Past award recipients include The People of Southwest Airlines, Ted Turner and the J.W. Marriott Family.
One of the 100 Most Influential People in the Tradeshow Business (2006)
Tradeshow Week magazine named Henry as one of the 100 most influential people in the tradeshow business in its Oct. 2, 2006, edition. The honor was in recognition of Smithbucklin’s increasing influence in the trade show community.
